And I was drawn to the quaint little town, which seemed to circle around an unreachable center, in what struck me as of a piece with the non-Euclidean universe I kept finding in these hill towns.<\/p>\n<p>With camera in hand, as every self-respecting tourist insists on burdening himself (and others?), I added to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carriagereturner.com\/?p=977\">the collection of my door series<\/a>. But I was especially fixated, as I now remember, on a construction site in Castelluccio that we passed by on the first leg of our journey up the hill.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.carriagereturner.com\/?attachment_id=2349\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2349\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2349\" src=\"http:\/\/www.carriagereturner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_2399-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"The Missing Link\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carriagereturner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_2399-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.carriagereturner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_2399-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/www.carriagereturner.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_2399-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Little did I know. This wasn\u2019t just your ordinary episode on the HGTV network.
